Breguet
Breguet – Master of Haute Horlogerie Since 1775
Breguet is one of the most distinguished names in Haute Horlogerie and boasts an extraordinary heritage. In 1775, the Swiss-born watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet founded his own workshop on the Quai de l’Horloge on the Île de la Cité in Paris. Through his inventive spirit and exceptional technical creativity, he shaped the development of watchmaking like few others.
Among his numerous innovations were the development of reliable self-winding watches, the distinctive Breguet hands and numerals, guilloché decoration, an early shock-protection system and the renowned Breguet overcoil. His greatest international recognition came with the tourbillon, for which Breguet was granted a patent in 1801. The mechanism was designed to counteract the effects of gravity on the accuracy of mechanical watches and remains one of the most fascinating complications in Haute Horlogerie to this day.
Breguet soon became a preferred watchmaker of European courts and counted personalities such as Marie Antoinette, Napoleon Bonaparte, Tsar Alexander I and Winston Churchill among its distinguished clientele. This exceptional combination of technical innovation, craftsmanship and cultural significance continues to define the identity of the Maison today.
Today, Breguet represents the highest standards of mechanical watchmaking, traditional craftsmanship and exceptional complications. Its principal collections include Classique, Tradition, Marine and Reine de Naples. Since 1999, the Maison has been part of the Swatch Group, combining its rich historical heritage with continuous research and modern watchmaking innovation.
